A pneumatic speed controller (often called a flow control valve) regulates the speed of pneumatic actuators, such as air cylinders, by restricting the volumetric flow rate of compressed air.
How It Works
- Compressed Air: Air enters through a port in the end cap and pushes against an internal piston.
- Linear Motion: The moving piston pushes a connected metal rod outward to do work, such as lifting or pushing an object.
- Control: A directional valve controls which side of the piston receives air to extend or retract the rod.
Main Types
- Single-Acting Cylinders: Air pushes the piston in one direction only, and an internal spring or external load pushes it back.
- Double-Acting Cylinders: Air supplies force in both directions, using alternating ports to extend and retract the rod.
